Prof. Leontios J. Hadjileontiadis (π, 1966) received the Diploma degree in Electrical Engineering in 1989 and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1997, both from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), Thessaloniki, Greece. Prof. Hadjileontiadis also holds a Diploma in Musicology (AUTH, Thessaloniki, 2011) and a Ph.D. degree in music composition (University of York, UK, 2004). Since December 1999 he joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, AUTH, Greece, as a faculty member, where he is a Professor, working on signal processing in the fields of biomedical engineering (bioacoustics, ECG data compression, high density EEG-based 3D vector field tomography) affective computing (EEG-based emotion recognition), educational data analytics (blended-, affective-, collaborative-learning modeling), non-destructive testing data analysis (crack detection in beams and plates), behavioral modeling (swarm-based decomposition/transform) at the Signal Processing and Biomedical Technology Unit of the Telecommunications Laboratory, serving also as its Director. He is also a Professor in composition at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki, Greece. His research interests are in higher-order statistics, alpha-stable distributions, higherorder zero crossings, wavelets, higher-order statistics/spectra, wavelet polyspectra, lower-order statistics, fractals, swarm analysis, neuro-fuzzy modeling for medical, mobile and digital signal processing applications. So far, he has supervised six PhD Students and three Postdoc researchers, while his publication record includes >80 papers in peer reviewed international journals, >135 papers in peer reviewed international conference proceedings, 6 books, 2 book edited, 23 book chapters and 2 patents (h factor 26, >2600 citations). He has also acted as guest editor in special issues editions and served as chair/co-chair/keynote speaker in many international conferences. He is the recipient of many international awards, amongst ones the Faculty Champion Award 2012 from Microsoft. From 2004 till present, he has organized and served as a mentor to student teams that excelled in the worldwide Microsoft Imagine Cup Competition [Sao Paulo, Brazil (2004); Yokohama, Japan (2005); Seoul, Korea (2007); New York, USA (2011); Sydney, Australia (2012); Seattle-Redmond, USA (2015)] with projects involving technology-based solutions for people with disabilities and older adults, exhibiting high visibility [meeting with Bill Gates (MS CEO), Steve Ballmer (MS CEO), Satya Nadella (MS CEO), Matt Lyndon (MS VP)] by receiving the 1st Award (Ability, 2015), 2nd Award (Software innovation, 2005), 3rd Award (World citizenship, 2015; Software innovation, 2004), Top 7 (Software innovation, 2007), Top 6 (Software innovation, 2012). Just recently, his 4M€ grant proposal about Parkinson’s Disease early prognosis and intervention (namely i-PROGNOSIS) has been accepted and signed by the European Commission- Horizon 2020 Research Framework after a very competitive selection (4/165). Currently, Prof. Hadjileontiadis is the Coordinator/Scientific Responsible of three EU FP7/H2020 projects with a total budget up to 10M€. He also has strong collaborations with international research networks/centers (e.g., Karolinska Institutet, Fraunhofer Institute, Kings College London, Harvard/MIT, Winnipeg University). He is a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece, of the IEEE, of the Higher-Order Statistics Society, of the International Lung Sounds Association, of the American College of Chest Physicians, and of the Greek Composers’ Union (Vicepresident). Prof. Hadjileontiadis is a Senior Member of the IEEE.
